Avalon Ard Ri ("High King") A1-325C in near mint condition, hand made in Northern Ireland by Avalon Custom Lutherie Ltd. This was the first guitar completed at the Avalon shop in 2014.

Avalon started out as Lowden Guitars, and became Avalon when George Lowden went his own way more than 12 years ago. Avalons are built in the same shop by several of the same luthiers that were building Lowden branded guitars back then. Avalons are equal if not better in build quality to Lowdens, and have the same clear as a bell - like sound and ease of play.

This Avalon Ard Ri was made in large part by the same luthiers, and in the same shop, as my Lowden 025 built around 21 or 22 years ago, one of my favorite guitars. Some players have referred to Avalon and Lowden as "siblings", and say that you can see, feel, and hear the "family connection". I think that says it well!

This guitar is built with all solid woods;  a cedar top and a gorgeous Madagascar Rosewood back and side set. The bindings are made of solid Australian Blackwood, the rosette of hand inlaid shell. The neck is 5 piece mahogany / sycamore. The bridge and fingerboard are ebony; the saddle and nut are bone. 25-1/2" scale; 1-3/4" nut width. Tuners are Gotoh SG 381's with solid ebony buttons. Jumbo frets. Factory installed Fishman Ellipse Blend system. Comes with a high quality Hiscox hard shell case made in England, as pictured.

Overall, a fine work of luthiers' art! Original list price is north of $8000.

The pics with white background were supplied by the factory (the photo showing the wood endpin was taken before the Fishman system was installed - the original end pin is in the storage compartment of the case); the black background photos were taken in my studio. You can see a few photos of the guitar in the later stages of being built.

This guitar has not seen much playing time, but it does have a few tiny finish cracks which are difficult to photograph - message me and I'll be glad to send you pics.

We'd like to thank our good friend Doug Yeomans for the demonstration video!
