About This Listing
We have been selling the mandolins that Mr. Arnold Cross makes for several years now. He brought two of his recent creations by the shop recently, and this is one of them. This is No. 080. I have also listed No. 083 in a separate listing here on Reverb.
This mandolin is constructed with an Engelmann Spruce top and nicely figured maple back and sides. The neck is also constructed with figured maple, with a triple-laminate of walnut-maple-walnut down the center of the neck. The flat fretboard is made of ebony and the headstock overlay is Eastern Walnut, which seems to be what Mr. Cross always uses here. The adjustable bridge is made of ebony. The body, neck, and fretboard are adorned with Ivoroid-Black-Ivoroid binding. The hardware is nickel plated. The finish is a gloss lacquer over a light, somewhat subtle sunburst coloring.
This mandolin also has a two-way adjustable truss rod in the neck. It is accessed by way of an Allen wrench under the high end of the fretboard. Very stealth-like! It also helps to strengthen the neck-to-fretboard transition area, as there is no need for the usual truss rod pocket in this area, which can weaken it.
Here at RedLine Acoustics/Cumberland Acoustic we do instrument set-ups on a near-daily basis. We have gone through this mandolin upon receiving it and put our finishing touches on the set-up, which will give you the optimun in tone and playability that this instrument can offer.
Notice that this mandolin comes with a hard shell F-Style case. Also, if you happen to be in the Nashville, Tennessee area, this mandolin (and others) are available for local inspection and purchase, which will also save you the shipping charges.
As always, thanks for looking! Be sure to ask any questions you may have about this fine American made instrument.
