David Flammang has distinguished himself in the league of modern luthiers for his remarkable attention to detail, and quality builds, of both traditional designs, and those unique to him.

This was one of two of David's first takes on the revered Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe.  There is no surprise that Jackson Browne has quite a few of Smecks in his collection, and the model has been favored by the likes or Norman Blake and others, and the 12-fret jumbo is starting to be seen in the hands of many modern players as well.  While those converted from Hawaiian to Spanish play all have had the challenge of narrowing the neck a bit, to make it playable, the reward is in the rich, amazing tone.

Being conceived as a Spanish-played guitar from the git-go, this one's neck, with nut width of 1 13/16" and string spread at the saddle of 2 3/8", tips it's hat to a vintage Gibson Smeck, while making it feel modern to the player;  its neck is nothing like the baseball bats in the real deal, with its nice C-shape, with a hint of V.  It has a red spruce top, Honduran mahogany back and sides, bone nut, saddle and bridge pins, mahogany neck, ebony headstock overlay, ivoroid bindings and Brazilian rosewood bridge and fretboard.

Tonally, there's something magical when you make a guitar with a bridge located in the center of the lower bout, driven there by the 12-fret neck placement.  It's big and present, like with most jumbos, and stands up well to a pick, or with fingers.

I have been the only owner of this guitar, and it is without any physical or cosmetic issues.  Its ships in the original Cedar Creek custom hardshell case.
