About This Listing

Woodstock is the first Ukranian electric guitar manufacturer based in Kiev. There is no mass production, but the instruments are largely made individually, which in my opinion you can also hear. As much as the quality of the woods. For example, you can order a Standard Strat, Tele, ..., or the basically same guitar in Relic (Oldboy) optics or a custom instrument with individual wishes.

As far as I know, this Strat with maple neck and alder body originally was a Custom hard-tail Strat with HSS routing.

As the guitar already sounded extremely well, due to the very good woods and the workmanship, it additionally was converted to a circuit based in principle on a "Lead II", and some hardware components (saddles, tuners) were also even more optimized.

Modifications, additions:

.) Barely visible, but good working locking tuners

.) Warmoth custom pickuguard, routed for 2 Strat single coils, 2 potentiometers, additionally installed Half-Out-Of-Phase (HOOP) switch with Styroflex capacitor(s) in vintage white (not cream, not mint, but slightly aged white)

.) New, staggered Alnico V Strat pickups with vintage voicing (neck approx. 6 kOhm, bridge approx. 6.6 kOhm)

.) New, better stainless steel saddles on the bridge

.) New, large diameter potentiometers, 23mm, 250 kOhms

.) better sound capacitor (MPP)

Maple neck with maple fingerboard, medium C-shape, satin finish

Jumbo frets

2-part alder body, natural, satin finish

Strat shaping and scale length

Nut width approx. 41 mm

Weight approx. 3.4 kg

Guitars with 2 Strat single coils are not really so unusual, in the early 80s - and meanwhile again - there was the Fender Lead II with a smaller body and only 2 single coils, as a reaction to the then significantly cheaper Japanese Strats, later there was the Hohner "The Prinz"; actually a Tele Custom, but with two Strat single coils, which a Mr. Nelson made quite popular, a certain Mr. Blackmore also threw the middle pickup out of his Strats from the late 70s on or replaced it with a dummy coil.

This Woodstock guitar sounds fantastically good (in my opinion), typical, nice, transparent Strat tone, very resonant, fast attack, but also with exceptionally good, evenly decaying sustain due to the hard-tail / string-through construction.

My 1982 USA Standard Strat as well as my 1998 Blade RH-3 sounded - as far as I can remember - much worse, despite of the same woods. (Even if sound is always a matter of taste, of course.)

The pickups transmit the dry, open sound very well and naturally. Also the neck-bridge combination sounds good and well balanced. I anyway always preferred the neck and bridge combination over the more usual neck-middle or middle-bridge combinations.

Beautiful, transparent vintage character, without too sharp or shrill sounding treble or muddy bass.

The half-out-of-phase circuit allows an additional forth voicing. A pure out-of-phase circuit never convinced me very much, a somewhat too thin, hollow sound, even more in combination with single coils. The half-out-of-phase circuit is, if the right capacitor is used, much more useful.

Compared to the regular parallel pickup in phase combination, this voicing offers a slightly tighter bass, fewer mids and the typical, hollow out-of-phase treble, similar to the neck and bridge combination on a Tele, or almost like an Acoustic with a magnetic pickup, whereby the output is only slightly reduced. The sound is "lighter, but still has enough "meat", doesn't sound too thin, just a little more transparent. A usable alternative to the regular in-phase combination.

The natural look of the alder body is of course not the perfect eye-catcher, but this is easily compensated with the great tone of this guitar. If somebody likes hard-tail Strats or the simplified, more or less "Lead II" based circuit over a three pickups Strat.

The guitar has been extensively modified / optimized, but still is almost as good as new, the frets are still very good, almost as new. It comes in a new gig bag with neck fixation, with allen keys for neck adjustment and the saddles.

The guitar will be safely shipped in the gigbag and a double box.
