You're looking at a 1987 Gibson Bass IV, aka "ThunderBird in a Tuxedo" in well-played 100% original condition with the matching Gibson OHSC. No cracks/breaks or structural repairs ever. The frets are in very good shape with a lot of life left, and both the truss rod and the electronics work as designed. Plug & play, IMO.

These were a somewhat short-lived affair, produced from late '86 through early '88 and presumably designed by Wayne Charvel who was contracted to do a lot of design work for Gibson at the time. Sure, she screams '80s but if you're interested in a ThunderBird sound without the Bird ergonomics, this may prove to be an excellent match for your needs. She plays and sounds great IMO and balances well. Sadly, I can't really play long-scale basses anymore due to health problems so up for grabs she goes...

Specifications:

- Mahagony body

- Mahagony neck with 34.5" (long) scale and 12” radius

- 1.65" nut width (close to "B" - sized Precision bass nut which is 1.625")

- Set neck construction

- Ebony fingerboard with 22 frets

- Two TB+ pickups  (the same ones used on ThunderBirds from this era)

- Gibson/Schaller "roller" bridge

- Two volume and one tone controls

- Original Gibson HSC included - two latches missing - but still functional

The bass plays great for *my* preferences which are a 040-100 set of APEX stainless steel rounds with medium low action and less than 15 hours of use. Do bear in mind that I have a *very* light right hand, so if you like digging in or play with a pick, you'll most likely have to make setup adjustments to suit your style, needs and preferences. I can't and won't guarantee that this bass - or any other on this planet - will ever set up to suit your needs 100%.

known imperfections:

- The finish has worn all the way through to the bare wood on upper bevel - see pictures - not a "relic" job, real wear and tear.

- There's a number of scratches/scrapes/dings/checking in the finish as seen in the pictures. This bass is pushing 35 years of age and nitro does not age gracefully.

- It seems that at one point some miniature sparkles were sprayed over the finish in some areas. They are barely visible now and don't come out well in the pictures but I thought that this should be mentioned. They never bothered me so I left them alone, but presume that removing them shouldn't prove to be too big of a deal if one chose to do so.

Questions are welcomed. Please do not presume anything one way or another, and ask all and any questions before purchase. If you feel that you need additional pictures taken, I'll do my best to oblige. I want to make sure that you understand exactly what you're buying since I have a longstanding zero tolerance policy when it comes to buyer's remorse.

The bass will be shipped to lower 48 states for the price quoted in the listing insured for its full value with signature on delivery required - Alaska and Hawaii residents please contact me for a shipping quote - and under no circumstances will I ship this instrument internationally,
