Slightly more compact than the traditional semi-hollow favorite, this is a really well-made center-block-style guitar. Produced in Japan in the early ‘80s, it features a laminated maple top and back, with mahogany sides. The 3-piece mahogany/maple neck has a bound striped ebony fingerboard with large MOP markers.
The Rainbow II includes Super Twin 50 pickups routed through a 2 volume knobs and 2 tone knobs that allow for either series or parallel control. A gold Bigsby tailpiece and gold Sperzl locking tuners have been added.
The gold plating on the neck pickup shows some wear and there are a few small scratches on the front—nothing that impacts the guitar’s performance (see photos). There’s very little rash or other noticeable damage to the back, and the back of the neck has one or two tiny nicks (from leaning against the amp, most likely). Overall, for a nearly 40-year-old guitar, this is in excellent condition, and a great buy for a 335-type guitar.
