This bass is really rare, not often seen in the U.S. The serial number shows it's birthday as January 13th, 1988.
1988 Yamaha Motion MB-III bass SUPER EDITION, I purchased it in Japan and I believe that was the only place they were sold. You do not see very many of them in the U.S. market. This one is all black with chrome hardware and it's in good condition. There is a little bit of buckle rash on the back and one ding by the input jack on the back. On the front there is a little bit of pick dimpling above the strings and some marking where the wrist rests but otherwise is in very good original condition. None of the marks are through the finish.
I have tried to take photos of every little nick and ding so that you know exactly what you're getting, but it is very difficult with the shiny black finish, most of my attempts ended up with reflections of me holding my camera instead of showing the ding.
The overall tip to tip length is 41" making it at least 6" shorter than a standard Fender style bass. This bass is light and fast due to the tiny headstock. It has a medium scale at 32" (I measured more like 33") while still managing to have 24 frets. The neck is straight and has a rosewood fretboard with pearl dot inlays.
The thing that all of the comment boards online rave about is the sound, these basses have two Yamaha BX series soapbar pickups and they do sound clear and crisp but well supported in the low end. I had an 80's BX-1 back in the day that had the same pickups in it and they were awesome as well, even though I prefer this body style over the headless BX.
Note to the player: on my BX-1 and on both of these basses there is a little 60Hz hum when the tone knob is rolled all the way over and you are not touching the strings. It's that way on every set of BX pickups I've ever played on. Some are worse than others and I consider this to have a "normal" amount of buzz. I can send you video demonstrations of this if you would like. It can be mitigated easily by rolling the tone just slightly off of full.
