Gretsch Early '60s Round Badge Kit 12-16-20 1960 Blue Sparkle

Round badge Gretsch kit from the early '60s. Sizes are 8x12, 16x16, 14x20.

Here's the good: Kit is super clean. No extra holes except for the Ludwig tom mount, which is the only mount on the shell, so I suspect that it was installed at the shop at the request of a customer. It takes a modern Ludwig 1" tom post, so you could easily put a RIMS mount on the tom and not have to mess with a snare stand. Your call. Original tom legs and all the diamond mounts work.

Floor tom is clear interior so I am guessing it was right when they changed over to 6-ply shells with silver sealer.

Pratt muffler is there and complete with original felt. Kick legs are original. Chrome is GREAT.

All lugs are packed with wool felt. My plan was to play this kit forever and then we hit a deer in the family car and, y'know, that's how it goes sometimes.

Here's all the caveats:

There are a few minor scuffs on the finish. I tried to put photos of all of them in the listing. 

I patched a chunk of missing wrap on the reso side of the kick. It's not terrible but I'm no Jack Lawton.

The shells require Remo Classic Fit or other oversized heads. Standard heads are wicked tight. The kit currently has Coated Ambassador Classic Fit on the toms and they sound GREAT. Kick drum reso is a standard sized Gretsch logo head and it's TIGHT. It makes the kick sound very bop-ish. It's a 20" Gretsch, though, so it was leaning that way anyway.

I cut new inlays for the kick drum hoops from period correct Gretsch blue sparkle and the truth is that I kind of suck at cutting straight lines. If you get right on top of the drum, you can see that the inlay could have been cut cleaner. 

Kick drum badge is a reproduction, btw. It'll fade darken like the other two in time!
