This is a great old maple and spruce Wm. A. Pond & co. From what is left of the mark on the center strip .It reads Wm. A. _____co. Then N.York under that. From research I've done it looks like it could have been made by John c. Haynes co. The way the heel is mounted to the body is like a Bay State that I did a heel rebuild on. Finish looks like it could be original which is in great condition. The back is book matched as well as the spruce top. Rosewood fret board . Ebony bridge with fret wire saddle. Frets have had a light dressing. The braces are a light "X" bracing. Presently has nylon strings on it. The back was taken off and back braces have been re glued. 2 braces were added for strength . If silk and steel strings want to be used. Also a bridge plate was added as there was never one and the string balls were dug into the soundboard. Neck was reset and action is at .110 presently at the twelfth fret. It has the original tuners with one gear replaced yrs ago. It comes with the original coffin case that has a tag that reads. J.W.Tuttle--- No.141 Rockaway Ave. Brooklyn NY . My research shows this was about 4 miles from where the Wm.A. Pond & co. Did business 547 Broadway N.Y. Included is a Civil War 1883 Memorial day song book. Please ask any questions you may have. Thanks for looking.
