A beautiful 1977 Kay K-590 Duluxe Western Hummingbird Model Guitar with the original soft shell case. These guitars were only made from 1977 thru 1980 in Korea. Very high quality and play much better than the later Kay imported models.
No way to tell which year this guitar was made. We are calling it a 1977 just because! The guitar plays as nice as it looks. We had Jeff the Tech go over it completely and added a new set of Dr Ducks Phosphorus Bronze 12 gauge strings. We both were suprised at how great it played and sounded. Very bold bright sound and an absolute pleasure to play. No sore fingers with this one.
It has a couple small dings and such but overall in excellent shape for a 1970's guitar. The frets are still in great shape. I don't think it got much play. Looking at the case, I would assume it lived in there most of its life. The only malady we could spot was a slight lifting of the bridge at the back. Not enough to warrant the expense of of removal and regluing. Keep an eye on it but Jeff thought it may have been like that from the factory! It certainly is not getting any worse.
The Hummingbird pickguard is beautiful. Some of the stenciling is worn off from picking but its still beautiful. The guitar has a laminated Spruce top and Mahogany sides and back. The catalog states a Rosewood fretboard and bridge! The tuners had been upgraded so we left them on. We filled the holes. See pic 7. The guitar has a 25 1/2 inch scale neck with the adjustable bridge saddle. It has a 1 11/16 inch nut. Full body bindings that are just gorgeous!
Check out the case. The case is as nice as the guitar. All latches, hinges, and original handle are still with it. It even still has the accessory box and lid still operable. Beautiful case for your cool guitar!
Beautiful but vintage so its sold as is no returns. However, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and they all loved the guitars I found them. This cool Kay will certainly not be an exception.
