I accepted an offer for this guitar. The sale fell through due to non-payment. It’s in a box, bubble wrapped to all hell and ready to ship within hours of purchase.

Here’s a mild-custom 1963 “Supro Super”, known colloquially as a “thunderstick”. I see no evidence of a headstock badge, so my presumption is that this guitar was likely originally sold under the ‘Airline’ moniker, the badging would’ve been on the original pickguard. When I got the guitar, it was a neck-pickup only model, so I added a second original vintage Valco pickup at the bridge. The body already had the routing necessary for a bridge pup (just a minor scoop for the lead to pass through) but I did add screws to attach the bridge pickup. No other new holes were drilled. These pickups are gnarly. They are around 9k ohms wrapped around alnico bar magnets, and they are what brings the THUNDER! The small resonant body combined with the quite microphonic pickups just adds more body to the already full & saturated sound these guitars produce. At the neck they are a bit on the dark side, so having the additional bridge, and combination bridge/neck settings on a 3 way switch (new) makes this beast versatile for anything from jazz to full on wailing. These guitars will easily drive an amp into the dirt, and the 22” scale allows for very comfortable and articulate bends. The frets were recently levelled and dressed. The action is a medium 2.25mm at the 12th fret. It’s more than comfortable to play all the way up the neck owing to the short scale length. Of course the action is easily adjustable to your preference on the original rosewood z-bridge. The bridge has a little bit of “character” that one could easily finesse back into shape. Tuners are “single line” Kluson deluxe, original to this guitar but with new white plastic buttons. Serial # G5621. Strap buttons are new replacements. Brazilian Rosewood fretboard is beautiful and in great shape. Beautiful finish checking from stem to stern in the original black paint.
