MCI 542 Recording console in good condition.

This console was completely gone through 5 years ago by a longtime LA studio tech for use as his own board (so you know he did it right). The tech in question is very highly regarded and worked for Val Garay and Peter Asher, and Emmy Lou Harris to name a few people.

He had the board running in his own studio for 1 year before a personal tragedy forced him to close his studio and I acquired the board. Now, unfortunatly for me I am no longer recording big sessions and I am moving into a smaller space so I need to sell the console.

This is a 42 channel frame but ten channels were not redone - I have 6 of these donor modules that were used to fix the 32 installed channels. These 6 I/O modules are incomplete, but mostly intact.

So in effect this is a 32x32x8 mixing console, with 6 spare I/O modules that can be rebuilt or used for parts.

Power supplies were completely rebuilt using the best quality industrial/medical supplies that are overbuilt and should be good for another 20 years. They are spot on the required voltage.

The audio was converted to +- 18 volts and all op amps converted to 5534's. This is a major deal because the old op-amps have not been made for many years and are impossible to find.

The SSL 4000 board was almost a direct copy of this board, but the MCI sounds better because of a significantly cleaner signal path.

The console has one of the best and most musical EQ's ever made.

Many hit records where recorded on this particular board, and the list of stuff recorded on 500 series consoles is pretty incredible.

There is no better sounding or more functional console on the market anywhere close to this price range.

Anyone that tells you differently does not know what they are talking about and has no idea how many incredible sounding hit records were recorded on these consoles. The 500 console was Gus Dudgeon's (Elton John's producer) favorite console based on how it sounds.

Lots of cabling is intact on the board including over 48 channels of outboard, and 24 channels of I/O not to mention cabling for 2 track, alt speakers, and AUX sends. This will save you 100's of hours of time.

This will need some work to get back to 100 percent and is being sold AS IS.

Available to check out in Danbury CT and for local pickup here.

Also, several prospective buyers have enquired about having their agent pick up the console here and ship it for them. That is fine and to help you with the logistics here is some information if you decide to do this. Please be aware, that as a local pickup item, the shipping and transportation is entirely the buyers responsibility once the console leaves my studio.
I would assume you would have the console crated for transport and the approximate dimensions of the console and power supplies inside plywood crates (you would do best to crate them separately, as I did when I moved it a few years back) will be approximately:
Dimensions in inches of crated console and power supply:

Crated Console:

105 x 45 x 60  / 1450lbs

All 3 Power supplies crated together:

45 x 39 x 24  / 300 lbs

Dimensions of console and power supplies:

Console dimensions:

3ft 9 inches front to back

3ft 5 inches high to top of plasma meter bridge

7 ft 9 inches wide

Power Supply dimensions x 3:

1ft 8 inches wide

8 inches high

15 inches deep
