Here is a classic Yamaha RX-496 AM
FM hifi stereo receiver that works great and looks like new. Features
the
classic black styling that was popular in the 90s. It works
absolutely
fine, the digital display works, it sounds great and is ready to go.
Features a
classic rotary treble and bass tone control, rotary balance, the ability
to run
two separate speaker sets, and it has a super nice 75 watt per channel output.
The
remote works like most do, however the Yamaha volume and selector
controls
feature a very cool motorized remote: when you turn up the volume, the
knob physically turns. It is pretty cool, and works fine and
silently. This stereo receiver is from
the fascinating period before AV receivers became the industry focus so
this
does have a very nice phono stage. If you have a turntable you do NOT
need to
buy an added preamplier - just plug in the record player and spin your
lps or
"vinyls. This was the level down from the 596 so it is loaded with audio
RCA inputs which can be used to play an Ipod,
CD, DVD, VHS or MP3 player, and cassette, but it does not have any of
the soon-useless vhs video in/outs that you actually had to pay extra
for. The tape formats allow you to tape
and records or you could use this for output via an adaptor to use with a
sound
card to a computer if you wish. The amplifier section is solidly built,
and it sounds great. This was and still is a highly rated unit, and
Yamaha used
the circuit as the basis of the later rds and several other 75w units
for several years.
The tuner section is great, and hooking up an
antenna to it, it pulls in AM and FM radio stations with no problem. You
can
pre-set many different stations on FM and AM with this one. It has
terminals
for two different sets of speakers, so you can run a stereo pair inside
or to
another room or outside, which can be set for common 8ohm or 4ohm
speaker loads. Also, it comes with a copy of the owners manual so no
puzzling features. This unit did have jacks in the rear for a Yamaha system remote, allowing you to connect other units and remote control them: this does not come with those connectors. It does come with the factory loop and FM plug in antennas. Well taken
care of. This had been used regularly until recently, and is taking up
room. It is very clean with minor wear on top from over the years. Cleaned, and inspected, all
pots and switches have been
cleaned and deoxit treated, and it is dust free inside and out. It is
great for a main system, overkill for a
dorm, or a top-notch man cave set up. Yamaha offered some decent quality
stuff,
with beefy steel construction, and this receiver is a solid example. It
offers
fantastic performance but due to being from the black-finish era it is a
sleeper bargain now. We are asking $150 or best offer for it. Shipping
in the
US is only $35. Due to customs and AC current issues, I prefer to ship
only to
the US. Questions, or offers? Please let me know. That means I listen to
offers people, so go ahead if you have a reasonable offer. I have sold
plenty of things based on offers. Thanks for looking!
