This is a
very functional console with only a couple small servicable issues. Two
channels need reconditioning. They pass signal, but do not sound
correct. All the others perform very well, and 4 channels have been
recapped and upgraded preamp. The Automation section circuit has had the
internal battery replaced, so that's good to go.They are VCA faders
unlike many new budget consoles, with very accurate sounding preamps
with a taste of warmth which I appreciated in combination with a Digital
front end. Send and returns on each channel are 1/4" for tape machine
applications. Meter bridge is good except Channel 15 LED doesn't work.
Channel works well though. I rolled with this console for almost 15
years and maintained it well with just general maintenance, cleaning and
the 4 channel upgrades. Dimensions - H - 12" (32mm) at highest point W -
50" (1.24M) D - 30" (.95M) Weight - 117 lbs. Power supply 2 RU, 11 lbs.”
General description and condition: 32x8 with VCA automation, 6 aux, Splittable 4-band EQ (2 sweep-able), Inline monitoring returns on each channel for tape style use. It has full 32-channel meter bridge (ch. 15 meter is sketchy but channel is fine) - 32 100mm faders. Many of the channels have been recapped. But, two channels are in need of service. Easy to remove channels by removing the back and a couple ribbon cables and connection plate. Great modular design. . I had some minor problems with the internal battery for the logic and to my surprise, I found the USA Soundtracs service GUY! He called my right back, and walked me through the process of replacing the battery as well as identifying a little connection issue on the main power board. All has been well since. This is from a GearSluts post and has been my experience as well... "The Soundtracs Solologic is hardly a cheap desk, and is HIGHLY revered as one of the best sounding analog desks around, period. In the short time they were sold in the US(about 4 years in the mid 90's), over 15,000 of them were sold, most all of them still in use. They are workhorse desks that are dead quiet, with excellent mic pres, a nice eq section, very flexable routing and a great analog summing sound. These consoles still sell regularly for $2-3000, a steal for 24/32 channels of great analog summing." Some info from Soundtracs about the Solo: Soundtracs also produced the "Solo".....sold without either meter bridge or VCA automation in two frame sizes : Solo 32/8/32 and Solo24/8/24. Still with the discrete "front end" of the Megas and classic Soundtracs 4 band EQ of the Megas, MR range and PC Midi, and the six Aux sends (Aux 2 source from monitor input). Yes, they all have the exact (well nearly!) same front end /EQ design features . Includes Midi mutes all round, discrete mic amp front end (Transistors) and loads of warm headroom. The input stage : Utilizing the same design principles embodied the high-end Solitare and Jade consoles, the Solo 's balanced input stage delivers low distortion and rock-solid audio stability -all thanks to discrete electronics. It features switchable 48v phantom power, peak indicator which illuminates 5dB below clipping and a mic/line input selector. and the first line trim pot VR 1.
