About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1984 Rickenbacker 325V59 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This rare and discontinued Rickenbacker model is a faithful reissue of the 325 Capri, decked out with the factory-installed Bigsby B5 vibrato. And while the 325V59 wasn't officially offered in the Rickenbacker catalog until 1985, this model has all date codes from 1984, including the XJ-prefix on the mono jackplate, making it one of the very first 325V59 models ever produced.

A short scale Rickenbacker model that truly captures the classic jangle and percussive rhythm familiar to any Beatles fan, this instrument is outfitted with the original trio of Toaster Top single coils. The guitar is also featherweight at only 7lbs 1oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 12-52 roundwound strings, this Rickenbacker is dialed in with spot-on intonation and low action.

The maple neck has a round medium C profile, and much of the depth and shoulder of the profile carve is attributable to the thick slab rosewood fretboard. The profile measures .865" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The original slender frets are practically perfect on the gloss-finished rosewood fretboard with well-rounded crowns. The scale length is 21", as per factory spec for this short scale model, making it easy to execute chord extensions and navigate the fretboard quite speedily. The nut width measures 1 5/8". On the headstock, the original back-painted lucite gold truss rod cover/logo is intact, along with Schaller Deluxe tuning machines. Five of the original Schallers are intact, with one perfectly matched non-original Schaller-made gear on the High E.

The electronics all function as intended, with an untouched wiring harness and CTS pots that date between the 36th and 39th weeks of 1984. The mono jack plate has an "XJ" prefix, translating to October of 1984. The three-way pickup selector couples the middle pickup to the neck and bridge for tonal combinations only found on triple pickup models, and this guitar features a trio of Rickenbacker's higher output Toaster Top pickups offered in this era.

Plastics include the dual-tiered gold pickguards, with some oxidation on the gold paint on the truss rod cover and lower bout edge of the pickguard, along with a quartet of oven knobs. The bridge works in concert with the original Bigsby B5 vibrato tailpiece which is a very useful and responsive vibrato, perfect for quick warbles and moderate dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. The chrome plating on the hardware is gleaming, and wear on the Jetglo finish is limited to a couple tiny nicks on the back, and a few very faint finish scratches central to the back and on the back of the bass-side body horn. The neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
