From head builder/Luthier at Ronin Guitars, Izzy Lugo. Comes his new brand Fiam Guitars. This is the first model to be released under Fiam Guitars, called the Nightingale. Fiam is the next chapter for Izzy of Ronin Guitars and in many ways an evolution of his past company, with new ideas and pickup designs he’s been hoping to pursue, but has not had the time to. After moving back to NY from CA a few years back, Izzy felt it was time to move on from Ronin Guitars and to start his own company based out of NY. He finished building the last few batches of Ronin’s that were ordered in his new upstate NY workshop; then began jigging up for the new company. In the end it was a mutual decision between him and his partner John to end building Ronin Guitars.

Izzy has reunited with his long-time mentor Vinnie Saccoccio from their days at Pensa Custom Guitars, to bring you these new instruments and the results couldn't be anymore stunning. Each Fiam guitar is fully handmade in their Milton NY workshop.

The Fiam Nightingale is a new set-neck, 24 3/4" guitar with some of the most striking appointments to ever grace any of Izzy’s past models. The body and neck are both built from Genuine Mahogany and bound in grained ivoroid, giving the instrument an immensely high-end apearence. The binding tapers off near the bass-side of the body for a nice arm cutaway. This is the first time we have ever seen anything quite like it. The neck joint is a new and improved design compared to models by Ronin like the Badmoon where the body and neck joint is much bulkier. These necks tapers off very gradually into the body allowing you to hold neck and not body in your hand all the way up the board. You'll also notice the painted stingers at the headstock and neck heel. Guitarist's who love a large LP style neck, will feel right at home once picking up this guitar. The back of the body is also beautifully contoured and plays comfortably both seated or standing.

The Mannmade Vibrato on the Nightingale is the same unit found on past Ronin's, except it is setup to pull upwards as much as a Minor 3rd on open strings and a whole step on fretted notes; this is without having a fully routed out tremolo cavity. Izzy was able to achieve this, due to the set neck design and being able to build a larger angle into the neck . It is an extremally responsive unit, especially with Izzy's usual 2-Spring setup.

Now to discuss the electronics. The Fiam Bucker and Fiam Bucker Mini pickups, are an evolution of what Izzy designed when he was the co-owner at Ronin Guitars. Like the Ronin Foil Bucker, they have a similar “Wide Range” coil geometry, except this new design encapsulates two P-90 style coils. The pickups can coil-split without a dramatic drop in volume, due to one coil being much more dominant than the other. This also allows the full on hum-bucking mode to retain more treble content and spank than a standard P.A.F or P-90. In Humbucking mode you can expect a wide tonal palate, that transforms based on your pick attack and where your volume control is dialed in. The tone can be nasty with lots of grit and spank when dirty or more subdued and airy with a bell-like "Fender" quality when cleaned up. Single coil mode is slightly more compressed with additional top-end. It can be great for cutting through the mix in a band setting or allowing you to pull off Tele-type licks but with a stronger foundation regarding the bass and mid-range content. If that wasn't enough, the Nightingale is also equipped with two High Pass Filters (HPF) mini-buttons (1 per pickup) found on the pick-guard for brightening up your tone even further.

You also have a specialized Piezo pickup located inside of the bridge pickup's cavity called "The Magic Button", for acoustic-like tones that are bendable with the magnetic pickups. We like to think of these pickups as a master of all trades, as they excel at all styles of playing with little left to be desired.

Fans of Ronin Guitars as well as the older Foil-Bucker pickups will flip over the Nightingale. These instruments will most certainly feel and sound familiar to past and current Ronin owners but with a touch of something new.
