For sale is a Mint, Schiller 3-Valve British Band Compensating Baritone in Clear Lacquer. I purchased this horn about 4-months ago and have logged about 40 hours of practice on it since. After receiving it, I promptly had it chemically cleaned to clear out any manufacturing residue, upgraded the valve springs with slightly stiffer versions, replaced the felt finger button and valve stem pads with synthetic material, and checked valve alignment. These upgrades greatly improved the valve response and quieted valve noise. The valves have been properly broken in. I have enjoyed playing this horn!

Why am I selling after a short time and making the effort to tune it up? I purchased another one just like it, except with a Nickel finish to match my other low brass chums. I applied the same tune-up to the new horn and enjoy it every bit as much.

The horn has some additional tubing that helps to compensate for inherent intonation issues with sharp notes in the lower register with 1-3, and 1-2-3 valve combinations. Nothing special needs to be done to engage this compensating feature, so it is ideal for both beginning and advanced players. I have carefully checked the intonation of the horn with a tuner throughout its range and find it to be excellent.

I now have several horns sourced from the JINBAO Instrument Company in China, including this one, and am very pleased with all of them. I was very cautious with that move initially until I understood how to tune a stock factory horn to get it to work excellently for me. This is a practice of several notable domestic retail import brass instrument companies. These companies source most of their stock from JINBAO, or similarly reputable Chinese companies, and have their company name/logo stenciled on the horn(s).  Are these horns at the same high level as professional horns costing $4000-$6000, or more? Not quite, but until you reach and maintain a professional skill level, these horns are a fantastic value. Even for a practicing professional, these are frequently used as "travel" horns. They are well-suited for the progressing student into the first year of College and the serious amateur performer. I highly recommend them and have voted with my purchases several times.

USPS Retail Ground to the East Coast is $150, insured.  Insurance is required.  If actual shipping varies significantly higher/lower due to actual location or a preferred carrier/method , we will adjust payment before finalizing.
