About This Listing

Other than the very small blemishes you see on the front of the head stock, this guitar is pristine. These are 3/4 scale guitars. The story behind the guitar is as follows:

Before Gretsch could make it’s phoenix-like return to full-scale guitar production in the late 80s, they needed to raise some cash. A marketing tie-in with the Traveling Wilburys supergroup provided that opportunity. The Traveling Wilburys — Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan — would be photographed with their namesake guitars and provide their signatures (or to be more precise, their alias’s signature). Meanwhile Gretsch would build up some operating capital from the “collectibles”.

At the behest of George Harrison, a floundering Gretsch was commissioned to build a promotional instrument for the Harrison/Dylan/Orbison/Lynn/Petty project. These guitars were made in Korea for Gretsch and signaled their return to guitar making in 1988 Designed to pay homage to the Danelectro's of the 1950s and 60s, they were in production from 1988-1992. It has a white finish with Traveling Wilbury's graphics (no two alike) on the front and an autograph of band members stamped on the back. It's made of masonite (ala DanElectro), so it's very light.
