About This Listing

This is an interesting piece of Travis Bean history with the looks and body of a vintage Bean and improved modern playability of a TBD.

The poplar guitar body started life in 1978 as a prototype for experimenting with strap pin placement (see the extra holes as pictured) as well as directly mounting the bridge to the aluminum neck, rather than through the wood. It was also configured at the factory for coil splits, which was a rare option. This body belonged to Marc McElwee and was given to Kevin Burkett at EGC/TBD, where he made the neck and electronics to make the guitar complete.

1978 Travis Bean TB1000S Poplar Wide Horn/Thin Body
2020 Travis Bean Designs neck with 12” radius rosewood fretboard, brass nut, pickups, and electronics.

Because the bridge is directly mounted to the aluminum neck, this guitar has a snappier sound than standard production TB1000S/A’s. It’s quite nice.

This finish on the body is slightly distressed in some spots due to its age. Neck and electronics are in excellent condition.

Ships in SKB iSeries waterproof flight case.
