The MSC Card is the PCM sound data that is required for all MPC (or RPC) patch data cards to function. This data is not saved via sysex.  These are the same PCM cards used in the M3R as well.

The MPC cards are the patch data and are for pure convenience -- the entire card can be saved and loaded via sysex. Alternatively you can create your own patches without MPC card altogether as long as you have the MSC one.
