About This Listing

C. F. Martin Style 2 Model Soprano Ukulele (1950s), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case. This is a very nice example of Martin's mid-line 1950s uke, the Style 2 appearing not heavily used and without much play wear. The Style 2 has triple white-black-white binding on the top and single white binding on the back, making it somewhat fancier looking than the otherwise similar Style 1. In the late 1950s and early '60s this model listed between $40 and $50, and subsequently sold in far smaller quantities than its plainer siblings. This is a well preserved instrument from that period, an excellent player with the expected great Martin sound.Overall length is 21 in. (53.3 cm.), 6 3/8 in. (16.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 13 5/8 in. (346 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.). This is a nice clean uke overall, with some light wear overall but no signs of heavy strumming. There are some inexplicable marks on the back where the finish is somewhat crazed, probably from something made of plastic left under it for a long time in the case. Other than this anomaly the finish is quite clean. There are a couple of very small repaired grain cracks on the lower side, otherwise the uke is crack free. This is a lovely sounding, great playing old Martin just a bit fancier than average, in a good recent HSC. Excellent - Condition.
