Japanese-made Dreadnaught Cortez (Martin clone) w/Case
This Cortez guitar is an X-bracing Dreadnaught Martin clone. It has an adjustable bridge. It also has the "zero" fret.
This sweet old guitar is ready to go on tour. All the inlay work is abalone including the "Cortez" on the headstock, that is one piece of abalone measuring 1 and 7/8ths inches across. Yes, the Japanese craftsmen involved were great artists.
This Cortez guitar was apparently made at either the Hayishi guitar factory, or, Matsumoku factory in Matsumoto City, Japan. (The historical information is sketchy.) The guitar appears to be manufactured in the mid Sixties.
Measurements: Length overall 40 and 11/16ths, lower bout 15 and 3/4, body length 19 and 7/8ths, scale length 25 and 3/4, total nut width 1 and 3/4 (all measurements in inches).
This guitar is in brand new condition. Apparently, this guitar sat unused in a case for over 50 years. It is absolutely perfect. Amazing! This guitar seems to be based on the hummingbird, but everything I’ve read says they copied martins. Either way, the back and sides are prettier than any hummingbird I’ve ever seen. There is also a small crack near the sound hole that was repaired mid production. Maybe the reason this doesn’t have a model or serial. That, or a prototype possibly
