1929 Gibson RB4

This is one of 16 RB4's manufactured in this period.  These are rare

There is an in treating story behind this banjo.   This instrument was manufactured as a part of a group of 5 original RB4 banjos.  Being the first of the batch when they were stored at Gibson it would have been the first on the shelf and therefore the last sold.  Even though this was manufactured in 1929 it was not sold until the  mid 1930's.

In the mid 1930's when this was purchased it was converted from a flat head to a raised head.  At that time the banjo was refinished and the original label was removed.  In addition a 1/4 inch spacer was added.  Finally the serial number which had been sanded off was restamped using the current number stamps.

The original tone ring was taken out and it wasn't until about 6 years ago that Steve Huber purchased this banjo and restored this with an original ring.  The original spacer was removed and this is now the nicest original RB4 without a decal.  In addition at some point the rim (shell) was refinished. The resonator has the original finish.

This is one of the best sounding banjos in existence, made of walnut and includes an extremely durable hardshell case.

If you have any questions at all please ask.  Thanks!!!
