This is a very unique octave mandolin by Scottish luthier Thornton Caldwell. He makes few instruments each year and every one is unique, eye catching and tone worthy. I know the top is European spruce and the back and sides are wenge. I do not know the burl used for the fret board and head stock. Abalone and wood inlays are beautiful. The neck is laminated from several woods including wenge. Fit and finish is VERY good. Tone is all you would expect from an OM at this price point. Looong sustain. Like most of Caldwell's instruments, this one features a neck through construction -- the neck base goes through the body. This helps provide what Caldwell calls a "bend proof neck." 22" scale length. Thornton Caldwell made all parts of this OM except the tuners. His custom tail piece accepts ball end strings. Comes with a superlative Mono case. Very good condition. Had a couple of stable, cleated cracks on the back.
