About This Listing

Paul Reed Smith recently spoke with us here at Walt Grace Vintage and described this particular guitar as the "most important guitar he's ever built." This amazing 1983 pre-factory guitar has been regarded as partially responsible for launching Paul Reed Smith guitars into being one of the most important and popular guitar brands of the last 30 years.

Handcrafted by Paul himself in his upstairs shop on 33 West St in Annapolis, MD, this guitar would be the third offering that Paul would build in efforts to turn the head of one of his personal heros, Carlos Santana. It was pivotal in Carlos recognizing Paul as a real " guitar maker" after the first two guitar offerings famously being regarded by Carlos as "accidents of God". The result of this amazing guitar would ultimately end up being some much needed traction Paul needed to launch PRS as a brand, a true working relationship between Paul and Carlos that continues to this very day as well as the highly regarded Santana signature model.

This fine guitar is a true collectable that reflects real insight into what led to the enormous success and popularity of the Paul Reed Smith brand. It has been featured in books as well as Vintage Guitar magazine. It comes complete with its own ATA pro flight case, a hand written letter from Paul, as well as a copy of the Vintage Guitar Magazine from August 2012 it was last featured in.
