2012 Sergei De Jonge Concert Classical "Double" Cutaway
Offered for sale is a unique concert classical guitar from the workshop of the renowned Sergei De Jonge.
This particular guitar is a "double cutaway" concert model. The body shape allows for much improved access to the higher frets, including on the bass strings. The utility is welcomed, as the higher notes ring out strongly all the way to the end of the fretboard.
Details:
-49mm nut
-645mm scale
-Sitka Spruce top
-Indian rosewood back and sides
-Honduras mahogany neck
-Spalted maple rosette
-Soundhole bevel
-French polish finish
-Schertler tuners
-K&K passive pickup
This guitar sounds and plays beautifully. To me it has a transparency or purity of sound, which gives it overall clarity and strength to individual notes. Currently strung with D'addario regular tension with rectified nylons. Fundamentally the guitar is designed as a classical instrument so the original saddle is set for string height at about 4mm to 3mm from bass to treble. The original saddle is included, but currently installed is a lower saddle that brings the string height to about 3.5mm to 2.5mm. There is still just a small amount of room left should that be desired, but it is set up comfortably as is.
Characteristically of the the delicate French polish, there are minor marks throughout but despite this I believe its condition is listed quite conservatively as very good.
A relatively uncommon find with a nice collection of features. A really lovely guitar from a notable builder.
