If your a singer or drummer looking for something special with excellent sound quality and an old school style and flair then you might want to consider this classic Shure microphone. This is the only 545S I currently I have and they sell so quick I can never hold onto these for more than a week or two. If you need one I suggest grabbing it before it's gone. It comes with the mic cable shown in which to operate and an Atlas LO-2B on / off stand adapter for an easy release from any desk or floor stand you might be using.
Pic # 2 is from an old 1970's era catalog showing this very model along with the other 545 variants.
This is basically an SM-57 with the chrome finish and detachable old school 4 pin 15 foot cable. The sound on these mics are quite superb and make excellent snare mics.
The Shure Brothers 545S model dynamic cardioid microphone has uber strong output and warm tone. This mic has excellent uni-directional characteristics. The signal strength on this old mic is 100%. Like new and absolutely no issues. Set at low impedance. The 545 had distinctive looks and was a radical new design for Shure Brothers when it was first introduced to the world in 1960 with it's bold, simplistic and modern layout. It's been said by many musicians that the sound quality of this particular microphone is the best bang for the buck. Perfect for vocals, broadcasting and especially drums.
This example is in very nice overall condition with just lite wear. The satin chrome shows no deep scratches or pitting. Just lite corrosion on the screw that tightens the joint mechanism. The Shure label looks great and completely legible. The rectangular Shure label on the lower pistol grip shows just lite wear and the on / off switch slides smooth and works perfectly.
Please let the detailed pics be your guide. Mic is 100% solid. No loose parts. The front screen has no dents, odors or tarnish. The inner foam pop filter was replaced as the original was in bad shape. This greatly helps reduce the unwanted "pops" you get from breathing or singing to close to the mic and absolutely needs to be done with all these older 545 series mics.
The mic comes with a 15 foot cable that's soft, pliable and free of damage. It comes with the quality male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector as well.
Mic is an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 and far above average compared to what you'll normally come across online.
This 545S will screw onto any desk or floor stand you might be using as it has the standard thread size but the threads were partially wore down towards the bottom so I installed an Atlas LO-2B on / off adapter that allows you to quickly release the mic from any stand with the push of a button. Normally you have to unscrew the mic with several rotations before it comes free but with the 2 piece adapter you don't have that issue. The adapter also prevents and more wear from the threads on the mic itself. Adapter is in excellent physical and working condition.
