1977 Fender Jazz Bass with Custom "Garbage Pail Kids" Finish
I'm selling one of the most kick-ass Fender Jazz Basses I've ever owned (and I've had many). I came across this bass a few years ago and it had an original blonde finish with some major blemishes. I had a collection of 3rd Series Garbage Pail Kid (circa-1986) stickers laying around and - BAM!! - a lightbulb went off. After many hours of meticulous finish work, the Garbage Pail Kids "GBKJB" was born. I first removed all parts from the body and sanded down problem spots on the finish. I then adhered the GPK stickers directly to the body and added two layers of packing tape. I thought about getting a smooth lacquer or epoxy finish on top of the stickers, but I felt the packing tape was more punk rock and true to the spirit of the bass.
The sound and playability are phenomenal. It is a classic '70s-era Jazz Bass funk machine with bright highs and mids with deep lows, especially well suited for slap style, rock, and jazz. The neck is the deeper C-shape style and is straight as an arrow. The frets seem virtually unplayed.
All else original with the exception of the Schaller bridge and the pickups and electronics (Fender original series pickups). The pick guard has the Fender serial # on it dating to 1977.
