This is a lovely guitar manufactured by Manuel Rodriguez in Toledo near Madrid, Spain. It’s an unusual item and not easy to find too much information about but is a lovely, high-quality example, in keeping with the history and reputation of the brand.

MR Guitars are famous for high quality acoustic and flamenco guitars. This is a rare electro acoustic example and has an LR Baggs preamp fitted. Some years ago, I fitted a Fishman pickup (easily removed if you prefer) and had the guitar wired directly to the output jack. The preamp is therefore bypassed but I can see no reason why this couldn’t be reversed if preferred.

The guitar is in great condition. It was used almost entirely for recording in a home studio setup and would have made it out of the house for the odd recording session but never really gigged.

I’ve seen another example online which was advertised at a much higher price but there are no other examples out there that I can find. Due to the rewiring modifications and the need to move house soon, I am letting it go for less !

The case shown in the picture is included.

About MR guitars:

Generations of quality guitar making since 1905. Tradition and constant innovation in classical, flamenco and acoustic guitars.

The history of Rodriguez guitars is as rich as the wood they are crafted from. Manuel Rodriguez, the grandson of flamenco guitarist Manuel Rodriguez Marequi and son of classical luthier Manuel Rodriguez Fernandez, learned the art of constructing a guitar firsthand. His apprenticeship began at the age of 13 in Madrid, and after operating in his own shop in Spain, Manuel emigrated to Los Angeles in 1959 and opened a business there. Manuel resided in Los Angeles for nearly 15 years, making guitars for professionals, Hollywood actors, teachers, and students before moving back to Madrid in 1973.

Using only the finest woods, and hand-forming each to precise tolerances, Manuel Rodriguez developed distinctive guitars fit for the world’s preeminent artists. Each instrument is as unique and individual as the musician who plays it.
