up for sale here is a used vintage 1963/64 welson electric guitar. when i bought this, the guitar was not working and i put quite a bit of work into it to make it a great vintage "player" (not collectable) guitar.
24.5″ (622mm)
scale length, 22 frets. Set neck with adjustable truss rod.
the bridge was not able to properly intonate, so i installed a rickenbacker style bridge to be able to move the saddles far enough forward and get the intonation better. the drill holes are not the prettiest job, but the bridge holds well and does the job.
i replace the original "crappy" tuners with modern style tuners. i also installed a roller string tee.
electrics are now fully functional. i also replaced the output jack , the original was simply too old and corroded. it had no fret markers, so i installed lumidot (glow in the dark) fret markers. these usually charge up quite well from the stage lights or sun light, but i will also include the little flashlight that is needed to charge them.
there's one crack in the pickguard and a crack in the back (i think i might have whammied it too hard), see photos. the welson logo under the crown is missing as well. i don't know why but the previous owner painted the chrome tremolo and pickups matt. could maybe be removed, but i didn't bother me or affect playability, so i left it that way.
the whammy bar was missing and has been replaced with a floyd rose bar that screws in and works nicely.
all in all this is a very fun and playable vintage italo guitar. stays in tune very well with extreme tremolo dives.
i'm not a fan of humbucker pickups, so when i was playing it i made a custom pickguard installed 4 eko style pickups. i'll include it with the guitar. i love the shape of this guitar, in my opinion a much cooler looking jazzmaster offset shape. i ended up copying the body shape and building a custom guitar that looks like it. this is a private sale, no returns or refunds. any questions or problems, don't hesitate to contact me.
