As rare as rare gets. This is an Epiphone Excellente. First full production year, with the very desirable 1 11/16" width nut, built in the Kalamazoo factory in 1964.
This is a real gem of a guitar. It features a solid Spruce top, solid Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Ebony fretboard and bridge, Mother Of Pearl cloud inlays, a 4 piece Maple neck with plenty of flame, multi-ply binding on the body and neck, gold hardware, and sporting probably the most accurate tuners Gibson ever produced. It also has the oversized decorative 'Eagle' engraved tortoiseshell pickguard.
The guitar sounds and plays fantastic, and has just been professionally set up. It is a square shouldered Dreadnaught body with a 25.5" scale length, Body width is 16.25", body depth is 4.875". It is one of only 139 produced, serial number 68071, putting it on two digits away from the Sonny James Southern Gentleman prototype (68069), meaning that it could very well have been built on the same day.
This guitar has had electronics added. There is a piezo pickup under the bridge and volume and tone pots on the top. It has had a jack hole put in the side, but this has been plugged as the jack is now on the strap button. It comes with a hardcase that is not original to the guitar. The guitar has had a repair to the top, as there were small cracks running from the sound hole on either side of the neck. This has been professionally addressed and the repair is sound. The guitar has also had a re-fret at some point in it's life.
More pictures available on request. Shipping is £15 insured in the UK, International buyers please enquire first so we can work out shipping documentation and certification due to the woods used. This is a once in a lifetime guitar, you wont see another one of these again!
Overseas customers will need to wait for shipping while permits and certification are acquired.
