*Edit: The scale length is 34'.
I commissioned this bass in June 2008 after discovering there was no market for left-handed Les Paul-style basses. Stiehler, now defunct, was a father and son luthier team that built solid, quality guitars and basses. This was the first of at least four Les Paul basses Stiehler created. This bass, however, was the archetype, the master plan which the others followed. The bass originally cost 1,400, which was a magnificent deal, equating to 1,775 in today's market.
This bass comes with:
Solid-body mahogany with a flamed maple cap, influenced by the 62' Les P Rock pine neck with an Indian rosewood fretboard inlaid with mother-of-pearl
Two P-90's pickups for a big, clean sound reminiscent of mid-50's pop and rock-and-roll with a toggle switch between one or both pickups Chrome pickup caps, hardware and cloverleaf tuners
No pre-amp. Plug and play.
Comes with khaki lined hard case
Defects:
The toggle switch when flipped to the lower pickup sometimes does not engage, requiring a reflip
There is chipped paint near the fretboard
There is a small impression of a cross on the head
The hard case is pretty beat up and laden with stickers
