About This Listing

This is a really nice piece made from the early to late '60s in germany. From what I can tell, it uses some parts that were very common at the time from the late 50s used by most of the German/European guitar manufacturers of the time, like Framus and Hofner.

I must make it clear that it is a body only and it doesn't have a neck! However, being as it uses parts very similar to other brands at the time, it shouldn't be too hard to find a neck that fits and it period correct. It really is a restoration project. It needs a bridge and additional parts for the tremolo tailpiece, which could be replaced by a regular trapeze tailpiece or bigsby unit of some description. There are some holes underneath the tailpiece which have been plugged. They are tiny, and have obviously been drilled relatively recently, I plugged them up with some dowell, but they don't affect the structure in any way. As you can see, at the back under the neck joint there is a hole. There used to be a screw acting as a strap attachment but I quickly removed it as it was beginning to rust. There is a white plastic strap button on the bottom of the body which seems to be an aftermarket addition, but it wouldn't go amiss to replace it with a more modern one as well as attaching one under the neck.

The heel of the neck is still visible, and has been paired away somewhat. It looks to me like the neck was completely snapped off after an impact some time ago, which explains why the finish has become reliced with age. Personally, I actually rather like the cracking that has occurred, and because it's surface lacquer, you could re-finish it and the wood would be totally unharmed. Some parts have flaked off on little impact points, but to be honest, it's nothing a little permenant-marker and tru-oil couldn't fix. In the final photograph, you can really see how fantastic the finish is. It sort of reminds me of those flamed maple Les Pauls, except much more subtle. When it catches the light it surely demands attention. On the right hand side the binding has begun to lift from the body, which can be seen in the 5th photo. I'd have thought that some heat and new glue would be able to fix that in no time!

When I first received it, the metalwork was quite corroded, but after some restoration the pickups and control panel gleamed beautifully. Some additional polishing wouldn't go amiss, but it's really lovely to look at. After further removal and cleaning of the pickups, I discovered that the white is actually mother-of-pearl, which looks really beautiful up close. Funnily enough, when doing research into this particular model, I could find no photograph of this control panel, so it really is unique. I have no doubt that this is original either, because it it consistent with the designs of the other versions of this guitar, but completely individual. I tested the electrics, and they all work as far as I can tell. I've plugged it into an amplifier and tapped the pickups, which appear to all work as they should, but the pots are still a bit noisy, so perhaps they could do with a clean.

Apart from some slight repair work to the actual body itself (mostly cosmetic), it's actually in quite nice shape. Put a neck and bridge on there and you'll be raring to go! I'm very happy to take offers on this one because it's sold as seen, so simply click the button with your best offer and I'll see what I can do!

I must add that postage is based on premium next day delivery with the Post Office to Mainland UK, and it states that the item is covered up to £500 if lost or damaged, which covers this body entirely.

Happy browsing!
