Did they make guitars in Italy? Oh yeah!

A rare 1979 Eston Hollow Body guitar. And now, a little history...

In around 1959, when accordion sales were getting slow, Oliviero Pigini conceived the EKO project and created the first guitar prototypes. A short time after this in Castelfidardo, Italy, he founded EKO S.a.s. EKO began to produce traditional acoustic guitars and small archtop guitars of clear Sicilian origin.

EKO’s
philosophy was to offer a full range of guitars, produced with standardized industrial processes to ensure consistent quality. The purpose of the company was to conquer the most vibrant segment of affordable instruments market suitable also for semi-professionals, making the guitar economically accessible to everyone.

EKO
soon became the largest guitar manufacturer in Europe producing a half million guitars a year. Although primarily distributed throughout Europe, some models found their way to North America in the 1960’s via Milwaukee’s LoDuca brothers. These guitars were also imported into Australia by Lamberti Brothers of Melbourne under their own brand Eston, but not as EKO. The “TON” part of ESTON is named after Tony Lamberti. EKO rarely sold under other "brand names" except for possibly Vox. Many of these “budget” guitars were purchased by parents as student guitars for their aspiring George Harrison, and they found their way into the back of a closet.

As far as I know the original EKO was gone by the early 1980s.

As far as condition... excellent overall with some minor checking and a few scratches on the original pickguard. The pickups(not original) are Select Designed by EMG. The guitar is not all original, the tailpiece has been replaced…  tulip tuning machines as well.  Bound top and back, bound f-holes and bound neck too! Maple top, back and sides with a sweet five piece maple bolt-on neck.

You will not find one any better than this one...

Check out the pics because they tell the rest of the story... as they always do! The condition is, well, wicked cool!

Shipping quoted is to you in the CONUS, as always... includes the original chipboard case.

Hey make me an offer... I just might take it. Ya never know
