(SOLD)
Up for sale is my r made for Robbin Crosby of the heavy metal band Ratt. Max said he thinks he built this guitar for Crosby between 1982 -- 1992.
Who is Peter "Max" Baranet?
Max is one of the USA's premier electric guitar builders. He used to make guitars in Los Angeles from 1976 - 1990, before he moved to Arizona. Of the most famous players out there, he has made Gibson Flying V or Les Paul replicas for include Slash, (Gun 'n Roses), Eddie Van Halen, Lenny Kravitz, Nikki Sixx and Zakk Wylde.
This guitar was one of three V's and one Explorer custom built for Crosby by Max. Max, also told me Crosby bought four other V's Max had made for other clients.
This is what Max e-mailed me about his guitars:
back in 1980 i was incredibly lucky to find some old growth limba from the 1950's. i built about a dozen flying v's and four explorers. explorers dont seem to be as popular as v's. the specs were very close to an original 1958 but not absolutely dead on. i used indian rosewood fretboards on some of the earliest ones. they are nice guitars and can be brought up to spec if you find one. AND they are definitely old growth wood.
About the guitar
This guitar plays incredibly well and the neck is straight with no issues. It is no wonder why Crosby like Max made guitars so well, because of their playability and attention to detail of the original vintage guitars in which they were copied from.
From the way the wood grain runs at an angle different from the neck on the body, the long neck tenon and heel were crafted to the angle of the neck and headstock are closely copied from an original 1958 Gibson Flying V. From what Max told me very few people can tell the difference between an original and one he has made. Gibson had a harder time copying their original. This appears to be one of his later issues made with Brazilian Rosewood and of course a nitrocellulose finish. The pickups that come with the guitar are Gibson Humbuckers most likely from the 90's. This also comes with a Gibson coffin style Flying V hard shell case.
Price is $9499.95 USD obo, plus insured shipping in the US. Please feel free to write for more questions or photos and include your phone number as well.
