Vintage 1971 Alvarez 5046 Acoustic Electric Guitar

 The Alvarez Co. was born in 1971 and started to produce Martin copies. This guitar was obviously inspired by the John Lennon acoustic electric. While I was told when I purchased it that everything on it was stock, I am not positive that it is all true. The pickup, wiring, installation etc. all however seem to fit the era, so I can't prove otherwise. In any case, the unit is what is it and is hereby sold as-is. Condition: There are modest nicks and dings and other signs of playing wear. It is however a charming structurally intact vintage guitar that I can only characterize as a go-to-idea-hippie-beach-beater-guitar. The bridge was probably re-glued at some point. It seems to be a wee bit misaligned as the strings are not perfectly centered on the board. But it plays in tune just fine. It is actually fantastic for its age. God only knows where it has been, who owned it and what songs may have been written on it. The neck is straight, frets are in great shape and the unit plays well. The magnetic pickup works (no battery) and the pots have been cleaned, tone works well but, the volume pot only works wide open, so there is not much taper. Finish on the back and sides has started to deteriorate, but the previous owner waxed it well so it will probably last a 100 more years because you can't kill a guitar like this! Stamp reads 5046 and 0971 on back of headstock. The inner label reads: 5046 and Ano. 0872. The first year of Alvarez (and the script logo) was 1971.
So the headstock says September. 1971 and the label says August 1972. The guitar is almost 50 years old. And there you have it. It is a guitar that needs the right experimental-astronaut-communal-living-zig-zag-hippie owner-ha ha!
