This is a pair of our Tim's Enchanters PAF-style humbucker pickups - designed to provide a balanced, vintage tone! Our Tim's Enchanters pickups grew out of a custom order for a client who wanted a set of vintage PAF style pickups, but modified to give them more versatility. These pickups are wound with 43 awg plain enamel wire. They feature short leg solid nickel silver baseplates, steel keepers, maple spacers, Alnico magnets, brass bobbin screws, and raw, unplated nickel covers. The pickups are wax potted.
These pickups have a well balanced bright classic clean tone, yet they have the output and eq to stand up to overdrive well without losing their punch. The slightly higher output also allows them to perform well when coil tapped, or when wired in parallel or out of phase. In short, these are a perfect choice when you want a good vintage tone but a little more flexibility and better performance over a wider range of styles than a true PAF clone. The neck pickup measures 11.14k and the bridge pickup measures 11.5k.
These pickups are built with shielded 4 conductor wiring so you can coil split or use them in other creative arrangements. The wiring matches Seymour Duncan color coding - for a standard series humbucking configuration, connect red and white, use green as ground, and use black as hot. Our favorite configuration for these pickups is to use push/pull volume pots to coil split them with a 10k resistor in series, creating a partial split - this gives a tone that's like a giant warm single coil, but retains the noise reduction from a humbucking pickup and keeps the output consistent between humbucking and single coil modes.
This listing is for the exact pair of pickups featured in the photos above. I post the actual pickups I have, when they're available, so you know exactly what you're getting. In addition to the listings I currently have active, I can wind a variety of styles with different options for covers or bobbin colors - contact me for more info.
