One unusual Martin. No decal, just the company name stamped on the back of the headstock. And the tuners! This one caught my eye, as I attempt to get to know a range of Martins, then pass them along. This one falls somewhere between my two keepers, a Martin 0000 and a Goodall, so it's up for sale.
Shows relatively little play wear, fingerboard or frets; but a previous owner had a peculiar use of pick or fingernails, and the soundboard above the pickguard shows some relief, which I've tried to pick up in a couple of closeups. No breaks in the finish that I can see, but noticeable to the touch and in a certain light. The tuners have an unusual ratio-- only a few twists to wind a string, which you may or may not care for.
The sound is full, rich, not overly chime like-- definitely comes across as a Martin. I am not familiar with the company's guitars made in the 30s so cannot comment on how closely the factory got to capture that era's character. Simply excellent for fingerstyle. Would really boom with a pick, I suppose, but haven't tried that.
The case is in good shape except for the back clasp.
