Fender had this to say about the Modern Player Starcaster:
The Fender Starcaster: A Mythical Beast Returns
Now
that Fender has re-released the Fender Starcaster design as part of its
Modern Player series, you can finally wrap your hands around one of the
most unconventional guitars in the company's long history! The
Starcaster was the result of Fender's attempt to break into the
semi-hollowbody market in the late 1970s. They did so with this unique
instrument designed by Gene Fields. This re-release seeks to deliver the
one-of-a-kind sound and playing experience of the original Starcaster
-- and makes a few key upgrades that truly equip it for the needs of a
modern player.
Innovative Semi-Hollow Starcaster Body
The
Fender Starcaster comes to you with a thin semi-hollow offset body. The
maple top and f-shaped neck holes are handsomely bound in white. The
maple neck comes carved in the widely beloved modern "C" shape that
makes it a touch friendlier in the hands than the original Starcaster
neck. It is set with a 9.5-inch-radius maple fingerboard and 22 medium
jumbo frets with black-dot inlays. The characteristic Starcaster
headstock has a vintage tint to match the neck and Fender Standard
cast/sealed tuning machines.
Rare Pickup Design to Match
The
pair of Fender Wide Range humbucking pickups on the Modern Player
Starcaster give you the widest possible range of tones, for use in
virtually any style of music. These updated pickups are built to the
specs of the original Wide Range humbuckers that have long commanded
huge prices on the vintage market. They deliver a tone that is crisp and
clean when played straight, but lends itself powerfully to complex
distortions and overdrives. A three-way toggle switch allows you to
blend the unique sound of each pickup at will, while four skirted
'amp'-style control knobs allow you to fine-tune your tones.
Built for Excellent Playability
A Single Wing string tree keeps your string lie solid, while perfect intonation is assisted with the AdjustoMatic bridge.
