About This Listing

This is a killer 1970 Goya G-10, made in Gothenburg, Sweden!

The Goya G-10 is the classic Volvo 240 of guitars. Super beautiful in their own understated way, they had a long and celebrated run, and they were totally ubiquitous with a significant period of time and made a lot of positive memories for a lot of people. There's an undeniable charm to the Swedish world of guitars, they have such a pleasant magnetism to them and tons of amazing songs have been written on them.

As an instrument, this is one of the best G-10's I've ever had in the shop! There's a lot of G-10's out there in various states of health, this one is 100% healthy and plays and sounds fantastic. Neck is straight as an arrow, action is low and comfortable, and the tone is shimmering and sparkly. The woods are beautiful all the way around, the birch back and sides give this guitar the mid-range that makes it shine under studio pics. The original Goya nut and saddle are there, I swear the bones they use come from reindeer but that's just my personal theory lol. I love the bone density of the saddles and nuts they used, I think they're super tonally conductive and play a big role in the Goya sound. I also love that unique signature light-orange color of the nut and saddles, it's a cool detail that's mostly unique to the Swedish guitars. The finish is crazed like all the European guitars are, the clear coats they used do that classic swirling effect and each has it's own design like a fingerprint. I've always thought they look super cool like that, this one has some cool designs playing out across the top.
Sometimes when guitars get around this age they need a myriad of repairs, but this one was well stored and cared for (not too hot/not too cold and not under high string tension) and it has a long life ahead of it as a quality instrument. There's no cracks anywhere to be found, and the whole instrument is tonally lively and vibrant. There's a few scuffs here and there, but nothing that's out of character with a 50 year old instrument. The tuners are replacements, they're about the same quality as the originals and they look the part. I took some pictures with the old strings because I thought they had some life left in them, they sound great but I'll switch them out for some new ones before it goes out. Super great guitar, has some great songs in it!
