About This Listing

This is the coolest bass! 1983 Fender Squire Silver series bullet bass, made in the Fujigen factory at the peak of Japan’s guitar making golden age!

There’s something super special about the 1980’s Fenders and Squires that came out of the Fujigen factory in Japan during this time. They play beautifully with a ton of vibrancy and spirit. All my guitars that I’ve played on stage and in the studio for years come from the Fujigen factory, I’ve always gravitated towards them because they totally rule.

As an instrument, this bass is about as perfect as I would ever want from a bass. Beautifully quarter-sawn maple neck, super comfortable medium-light weight (compared to most traditional P-basses), neck is straight as an arrow and action is low and comfortable, intonation is spot on, cool tele-bass inspired headstock design, neck profile is super comfortable, unique pickup sound and look, fretlife is at 95%, and aesthetically it’s in super nice condition! Full 34” jazz/pbass scale length. This bass was obviously never really played and it’s lived out it’s entire life since 1983 in it’s original case.

I love this Bullet series from this time, both the guitars and the basses. This bass has some angular post punk/talking heads vibes living inside of it. It’s separate from the norm and doing it’s own thing compared to what you normally see on stages and in studios. A lot of bands have used the Bullet series as their secret weapon, Gang of Four, The Talking Heads, and more recently the brilliant French band Phoenix. One of the guitarists from Phoenix plays one of these bullet series guitars, and the other plays a custom shop rosewood tele. The juxtaposition of the two tones creates the signature Phoenix dynamic. That’s a cool trick in the studio, blending an expensive guitar with a cheaper guitar.

This bass was never seriously played, and it comes with the original super collectible 80’e Fender case that’s also in really nice condition! It feels like a brand new instrument but it’s coming up on 38 years old. The 80’s Fender cases alone in thrashed condition are going for serious money, this one looks almost brand new. Super cool bass!
