Our pal Finn is a violin maker for all of his life. He is famous for
violins with incredible output and tone. He struggles with health and
we’ve asked him to turn his talents to mandolins.
Finn uses recovered wood that is at least 100 years old from old
buildings that were torn down. He found a 20-foot piece of 100-year-old
poplar in a cement factory. He tap-tunes the back as he carves them.
Then tape tunes old spruce tops as the f-holes are carved.
The result is an incredible hand-carved tone machine each unique.
Store-bought tailpieces? No way! Each hand carved. Pickguards? Ditto.
