About This Listing

Supercell by Grayscale is a massive 34hp clone of Clouds by Mutable Instruments with a plethora of added features. Clouds is an incredible real-time audio granulizer with reverb. in short, Clouds buffers incoming audio, breaks it into tiny grains and then allows organized or random playback of the grains. it's incredible to hear and the sounds themselves do a much better job of describing their functionality than words do (but if you need words, there's a detailed user manual available on the Mutable Instruments site). hidden modes in the stock firmware and alternate firmwares like Parasites and Kammerl/Beat-Repeat offer expanded functionality making Clouds incredibly versatile and almost always useful.

while Beads has become the go-to Clouds successor, Supercell features a whopping eight (8) different processing modes popularized by the original stock firmware as well as the Parasites and Kammerl alternate firmwares, going far beyond the core granularization functionality of Clouds/Beads. these modes include:
  • Granular Clouds (stock/Parasites) - direct descendant of the classic Clouds mode with a few tweaks and optimizations (more grains, more grain shapes, smaller grains, etc.). real-time audio granularization and playback. turn any audio stream into a cloud of microsound particles!
  • Pitch Shift/Time Stretch (stock/Parasites) - separates the pitch and time domains of the incoming audio stream to wonderful effect. kind of like the "elastic audio" processes found in Ableton, Pro Tools and more. works beautifully in conjunction with the freeze function for digging deep into the nooks and crannies of a buffer's worth of audio.
  • Looping Delay (stock/Parasites) - a clean digital delay. freeze prevents new audio from entering the buffer, continuously looping its current contents. can be tempo-synced or run free.
  • Spectral Madness (stock/Parasites) - i'll admit this one's a little over my head but it still sounds cool. does some kind of spectral smearing and resynthesis roughly in the style of Paulstretch. definitely dig into the documentation for this one - or just turn some knobs and have some fun!
  • Miverb (Parasites) - versatile, modeless reverb with ample control. inspired by Erbe-Verb but much less inherently metallic. pitch knob introduces "shimmer" effect!
  • Resonestor (Parasites) - you've heard of Rings into Clouds, but what about Rings INSIDE Clouds? basically turns your Clouds into a pair of 4-part resonators. capable of acting as a tasty duophonic resonator, Karplus-Strong voice or weird not-quite reverb and probably a lot more.
  • Beat Repeat (Kammerl) - chops audio into chunks and scans through them in variable order. perfect for stutters, skips, glitches and jumps. very much like the Beat Repeat device in Ableton but with CV control and some added features.
  • Spectral Clouds (Kammerl) - inspired by FFT randomization, this mode is most similar to the Spectral Madness mode in the stock firmware but with different controls and a fairly different and unique sound. again - this one's a bit over my head but it's really quite fascinating. have your manual handy or boldly go where your brain might not follow.
in addition, Supercell features independent inputs for all four "Blend" parameters, additional stereo VCAs at both input and output stage (complete with mute buttons) and a manual trigger button for improved playability. as if that wasn't enough, an additional "AUX" modulation input allows you to feed a single signal to all unpatched CV inputs simultaneously. when the AUX jack is unpatched, Supercell generates random CV for all parameters internally, making it excellent even without anything other than an input signal! paired with the added attenuverters on every CV input, Supercell makes Clouds more powerful and playable than it's ever been.

excellent condition with minimal signs of use. comes with Supercell firmware installed for maximum functionality. includes ribbon cable and fully insured shipping.
