If you've always wanted a Music Man Stingray, but couldn't imagine having a 10+ Lb. bass hanging off your shoulder for a 3 hour gig, then this is the bass for you. The bass weighs in at a nice and light 8 lbs. -- even with an 18v system in it -- due to the lightweight Catalpa (very similar to Swamp Ash in appearance and tone) and the Hipshot Ultralight Tuners.

The EMG MMCS Music Man pickup has all of the great slap tone you'd expect from an MM style pickup. The pickup is paired with EMG's EXB control, which is a Treble/Bass expander. Rolled off, the control is bypassed. As you turn it clockwise, it increases the treble and bass frequencies of your signal while reducing the mids. Unlike the usual active EQ systems, this one doesn't boost any part of your signal, so your output volume doesn't change. The best thing about it, in my opinion, is that you can quickly go from a mix-cutting, finger-style tone, to a mid-scooped, slap tone and back again with just a turn of a knob, and since you're not screwing with your overall volume, you won't get any dirty looks from the dude running sound.

I've got the action set pretty low -- ready for "Slappy Hour", but raise it up a bit, throw on some flats, put on some shades, and get your Joe Dart on (assuming you can play like Joe Dart).

The neck is basically a modern Jazz bassneck, specs wise -- C-shape profile, 10" radiused fretboard, 1 1/2" at the nut. If you've owned or played any of the current Fender Jazz models, this is going to feel very familiar to you. The neck joint has a radiused heel, which gives you easy access to the upper frets. The finish is a natural feeling oil/poly blend and combined with the rolled fretboard edges, it will feel pretty broken in right out of the box.

Besides the great tone and feel of the bass, this thing is gorgeous to look at (unless you like perfect, shiny things with no character to them). The front of the body is finished in Teal Green Metallic (a Fender custom color from the late 50s) nitrocellulose lacquer finish with an aged, relic treatment. The back and sides are an aged brown with an oil/poly blend finish. The forced patina, solid copper pickguard is just stunning. You're probably going to want to play this in front of a mirror, just so you can look at it the whole time.
