VARUS CUSTOM DELUXE 5 PIECE DRUM KIT, MAHOGANY SHELLS, ROYAL EBONY VENEER

Here we have a kit from the Varus Custom Deluxe series. Custom Deluxe drums are exactly what the name would suggest, completely custom designs with zero compromise on the materials. This set was custom made to order for us and features book matched Exotic Royal Ebony outer plies with black bands top and bottom, the finish is finally all expertly executed in High Gloss. The shells on the toms are 5 ply African Mahogany with 1 ply Royal Ebony outer (5.4mm) the Bass Drum is 7 ply African Mahogany with 1 ply Royal Ebony outer (7.2mm) and finally the matching snare drum is 5 ply Beech with 1 ply Royal Ebony outer (5.4mm) All the hardware on The Royal kit is Black Nickel.

The story of Varus Drums starts in 2013 with Thomas Mantovani (owner and founder). Thomas wanted to produce drums with an appearance that is more sophisticated, modern and casual, inspired by the great Italian motor racing brands and the passion reflected in their products. In addition, Varus offers beautiful, high quality, natural wood finishes.

The Mahogany shells deliver an incredible low fundamental tone, Mahogany is one of our favourite shells for Bass Drums delivering lots of warmth and depth. This is also present in the floor tom. The Royal kit will really excel in both Live and Recording situations. Recently Mahogany kits have become harder to get hold of which made the prospect of this kit even more exciting! 

There are some really nice touches on this kit which are very much part of the Varus signature aesthetic. The bass drum gets an extra deep front hoop, the bass drum claws, rods, lugs and spurs are all Black Nickel. The Toms have Black Nickel hoops, lugs and RIMS mounts. The Floor Toms get the same Black Nickel hoops and lugs, the floor tom brackets are also Black Nickel. All the drums have Silver Varus badges.

If that were not enough, The Royal Kit also comes with a matching finish 14 x 7 snare drum which has Black Nickel Tube Lugs and 2.3 triple flanged hoops (10 lug) Varus has made many phenomenal sounding Beech shell snare drums so it was decided to spec the shell for this snare in Beech which perfectly complements the Mahogany Toms and Bass Drum.

The finish is expertly executed and looks incredible across the drum kit, little touches such as painting the drum head collars on the bass drum black alongside the extra deep front hoop really enhance the looks.
