Up for sale, a 1990's Moon bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Custom built by PGM in Japan, this boutique bass is an unmistakable nod to the Music Man Stingray, with a round lower bout, sharp-crested headstock, and overbuilt 2Tek bridge. Offering exquisite fit and finish work, this Moon bass features a solid ash body, one-piece maple neck, thick slab rosewood fretboard, and an active preamp governing a single Bartolini humbucking pickup. The bass has a natural defined thump and bell-like upper midrange warmth that translates well through the pickup. The active preamp ensures plenty of sonic sculpting for ideal treble zing and punchy power with focused midrange richness. This Moon weighs 9lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and roundwound 45-105 strings.
The one-piece maple neck features a medium C-shaped profile with modest shoulder at the nut, filling out with more chunk and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and pristine stock medium jumbo fretwire. The bass plays well all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The scale length is a full 34“, and the nut measures 1 9/16“ in width, made from brass and ensuring ideal note attack and articulation. The headstock features the Moon waterslide decal and nickel Moon-branded tuning machines with tulip buttons that turn smoothly. The “Custom Built by PGM” sticker is still present on the back of the headstock.
On the body, the active electronics work as they should, with a Master Volume, six-position voice selector, and center-detent Bass and Treble controls for the single Bartolini humbucking pickup. Plastics include the stock knobs and black three-ply pickguard, and the nickel hardware shows light surface patina. The sturdy through body 2Tek bridge offers superior sustain and stability, with individually adjustable saddles for each string. Cosmetic wear is limited to scuffing in the pick path, and faint marks and scuffs in the clear coat of the Sunburst gloss finish mostly relegated to the back and bass-side lower bout edge. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.
