About This Listing

From 1985, this rare near-vintage Ibanez Pro Line PR1550 just might be the most authentically 1980's axe ever made! With a shred-tastic flat-radius fingerboard and a blend of single-coil and humbucking pickups, this one is in great shape to start rockin' like Dokken right out of the box.

The PR1550 sports a dual-fulcrum Pro Rock'R tremolo system that was ahead of its time, with fine tuners and individual bridge saddles to allow on-target intonation and a perfect return to pitch after even the most extreme dive-bombs. There are two single-coil S7FT pickups and one IBZ humbucker in the bridge position, mounted with Ibanez's tub-style mounting to maximize sustain. The three micro-switches, combined with the Duo-Sound tone/push knob to split the humbucker, can create up to 11 different pickup combinations.

The neck is thin and the fretboard is oil-finished maple with a flat radius (no curve, in other words). This is a very 1980's touch that not only makes bending easier, but also allows tapping to be executed with greater control. In other words, this guitar was made for 1980's-style shredding, which is why it was endorsed by Paul Gilbert of Racer X.

The PR1550 was only made for one year, 1985, and this rare near-vintage specimen has gained character as it has aged. It's well played in with fret wear and wear on the edges of the fretboard, but I've set it up with a very low action without any buzzes or dead spots. The signature Polar White finish has aged to an appealing cream color. It's road-worn with some dings, as shown in the photos, that probably occurred when rolling around with Tawny Kitaen on the hood of Whitesnake's car. It's far from mint condition, but every rose has its thorn, and it's aged far more gracefully than most 1980's rock stars!

The backplate to cover the tremolo cavity is missing, as is the truss rod cover. Those are also unneeded - the guitar works perfectly and looks great without it. The original Top Lok above-the-nut locking system is missing as well, and those are impossible to find. So I've replaced that with a Kahler above-the-nut lock that works just fine and looks, unless you're inches away, like it belongs. All other parts are original, including the whammy bar. Most important, it still rocks as hard as the day it rolled off the line in Japan!

It comes with the original case as well, which is road-worn but still in good working shape and all latches work well. It's quite nice on the inside, with a compartment for the whammy bar and above-the-nut lock Allen wrench (both included). Best of all, the case has an authentic 1980's McGovern sticker on it as shown.

This is the ultimate hair-band axe, ready to rock you like a hurricane. Because it was only made in 1985, these are hard to find - so grab it now!
