About This Listing

Here is a 30's Era Slingerland Radio King drum set finished in the always-classy white marine pearl! Sized 12x24/12x14/16x16/6.5x14", these drums have been disassembled and methodically cleaned to give them a new lease on life while preserving some of their vintage characteristics. Any surface dirt and grime has been lightly removed from the wrap, leaving only light cosmetic blemishes that are very much normal for drums of this age. All hardware has been evenly tumbled and is smooth to the touch with a very light patina - of the three Radio Kings we have recently restored, the nickel hardware on these drums had the most sheen! Their interiors have been given a light rub of tung oil to keep them from drying out going forward. The bass drum hoops on this kit are all-original and did not require a repainting.

The 14" rack tom's mount is quite unique! It uses a spring mechanism to remove the tom from the rail and is in good working condition. There is an added support for the left side of this bass drum that keeps the 14" rack tom's weight from tipping it over. This support is fully functional and serves its purpose well!

The 6.5x14" snare drum has a few extra holes that are pictured, and you'll likely notice that it has brand new nickel repro double-end Beavertail lugs. The original lugs were not all present and in rough shape compared to the rest of the outfit, so we opted to replace them. The hoops are also not original to this drum, but they are the nickel-plated Slingerland hoops that it came to us with. Still, it's a fantastic example of a trusty early Radio King player snare drum!

- There is a restoration time lapse that shows a bit of the cleaning process for similar drums of this era. You can find it by searching "Radio King Time Lapse Maxwell" on YouTube, check it out!

Steve’s Notes: Although this snare is missing the original rims, and the lugs are modern nickel reproductions, this solid shell Radio King is from the earliest era for these drums, which was the mid 30s. This period can be identified by the two “thumb wheel” adjustments on the extension bridges. This was only available for the first couple of years. Amazing drums and they sound incredible, and they are 85 years old!!
