About This Listing

Collector Alert!! Up for sale is a vintage 1929 National Single Cone Pear Shape Tenor Resonator Guitar - Style 2 Wild Rose. Serial #702. This is the only one of these known to exist. Mark Makin (renowned National expert and author of "Palm Trees, Senoritas...And Rocket Ships!") did this little write up on the guitar on Facebook that sums it up better than I can:
"Another new discovery this week. Single cone, pear shaped tenors are rare instruments in any form - particularly so in German silver. They were made for a very short time between the pear shaped Triplates and the single cone, small guitar bodies. From the serial numbers, there can not have been many more than 200 made, mostly plain bodies. Engraved instruments are next to impossible. Previously we only knew of one Style 3 single cone tenor - until now. This is the first example found of a Wild Rose Style 2, single cone German Silver Tenor - number 702. The pattern is done by a different "hand" to the usual Wild roses found at this time."
The condition to me appears to be in very good if not excellent. PAT PEND stamped between the fret board and plate. This guitar was definitely played, and there is wear to the frets as well as some minor wear to the fret board. The Planet (pat. pend.) tuners are in good working condition. Play wear to the back of the neck as well. There is a wear spot on the body to the right side of the heel that I am not sure what it is attributed to. There is also an unusual wear spot on the plate to the right of the strings (possibly an old pickguard?). The body is in very good condition with just a few minor dings and scratches here and there. The tailpiece is somewhat bent up at the strap button. The cone appears to be in very good condition. The neck is straight and tight at the heel. The guitar plays and sounds great, with no buzzing or fret out. I do not have the original case, but the guitar will ship in a hard shell dreadnaught case that seems to fit the guitar snuggly and will do it's job to protect the guitar. I have done my best to describe this guitar, but I am not an expert. Please view the pictures and use the zoom feature to determine condition and characteristics for yourself. Please contact me with any questions and I will do my best to answer them. Shipping to Continental US and the price includes insurance. If you are a collector, take a hard look, because you will likely never see one of these up for sale again!  SEND ME YOUR OFFER, I JUST MIGHT ACCEPT IT!
