Luxman SQ38D: A legendary Japanese "Golden Era" tube amplifier!
The Luxman Lux SQ38D is a vintage, exceptionally good all-tube control amplifier produced in Japan in 1964, during the “Golden Era” of Japanese HiFi audio equipment. Both the Luxman brand and their SQ38 line of tube amplifiers are renowned for their exceptional performance, especially in the mid range, and are generally considered “world class” by critics. This amp was the second generation in that line. The SQ38D has a 6RA8 tube as the output. This is an MT triode similar to a 2A3, but with a higher efficiency and gm. The drive circuit has 12AU7 and 6267 tubes with a fixed bias system. It has a rated output of 10W + 10W. The SQ38D was handmade in Japan and features a certain quality of construction you can immediately notice, as is expected from Japanese audio equipment from this period. Finding this incredible amp in very good condition is tough, so don’t miss this one!
This unit is in very good condition, and shows some natural signs of age and use (please see photos), including some scratches, spots, and oxidation.
